On this day in 1966 the first Royal Navy F4-K Phantom made its first flight at the McDonnell Douglas factory in St. Louis. The Phantom would become the FAA interceptor throughout the 70s until HMS Ark Royal was retired. You can still see the exact same aircraft on display Fleet Air Arm Museum.
