On this day in 1963, the first operational Buccaneer squadron, 801 NAS, embarked in HMS ARK ROYAL. The Buccaneer was the Royal Navy Maritime Strike aircraft designed for the cold war and would serve until the late 70's when its mantle passed to the Sea Harrier.
