1956 The Royal Navy suffered first loss in Suez Crisis when a FAA Wyvern was shot down. The pilot ejected and was recovered back to HMS EAGLE. The Wyvern had a troubled service and was only operational with FAA for 5 years, during which time there were 69 accidents.
