F-35 Lightning stealth fighters have joined HMSPWLS as the ship and her Carrier Strike Group head to NATO's biggest exercise in decades. The F-35 jets of joint Royal Air Force and Royal Navy 617 Squadron 'The Dambusters embarked the carrier exercise for Steadfast Defender.

These photos of U.S. Navy carrier pigeons were taken in 1919! When the plane is ready to take off, the four-bird size pigeon box containing the pigeons is handed to the pilot who handles the birds carefully, and places them in a secure spot in the lower part of the plane.

With the nose protruding over the edge of one of HMS Queen Elizabeth’s two mighty aircraft lifts, the 99-foot helicopter from RAF 7 Squadron was moved from the flight to the hangar deck. So large are the lifts and hangar spaces on the Portsmouth-based warship that there’s no need even to fold the rotors. Taken in 2018.

  • Bartini-Beriev-VVA-14. Only 2 ever made.The aircraft's first flight was held on 4 September 1972. At that time, the prototype would not yet be equipped with a pontoon for water landing. The addition of the pontoon allowed the VVA-14 to land in the sea. In addition, aircraft can efficiently hover along the surface of the water. The VVA-14 has two turbojet engines in addition to 12 turbofan engines. The aircraft logged a total of 103 flight hours over 107 times before the project was canceled following Bartini's death.
